The health kick June 26th, 2009
So staying true to my new year resolutions I’ve done none of them…well I’m approaching them slower than I thought I would. I have done the health kick thing, if I have learned anything from my past attempts is that I have to do changes slowly instead of a big bang approach.
They have worked, changing breakfast from anything-that-I-can-eat-in-a-hurry to oats and honey in the morning has kept me full at lunchtime. Cooked chicken and salad/pita for lunch with a protein snake at about 3pm has keep my energy levels up longer than normal.
But my biggest problem is also my most fatal, will and determination is that seems to be holding me back, that when things go crazy for a bit (fight with the partner, tough work day) I let my guard down and let the food in. It is this excat problem which has lead me to this predicment in the first place. It’s this realisation that I’ve ready many times and seen more often that not which has finally dawned on me.
This will be harder than I thought.

Sunday Ritual October 22nd, 2006
Every Sunday I head down to the local coffee shop (which happens to be Gloria Jeans) and grab a drink, which could be anything from a hot chocolate to a latte. It’s not exciting and not revolutionary but I do it on my own.
This is the weirdest part of my ritual because I go to the social place to spend time with myself, this was very odd at first but I used to do it much later at night when there were less people around and it didn’t matter as much because there were others doing the same thing (it was exam time the first time that I did it)
It started because I needed a change of scenery, I wasn’t concentrating at home and needed to get out of the house so that I could clear the head and think. It worked, I got a heap done and came back with something to work with. After there were no more homework to do I thought that I might take a book to read and again it was enjoyable, even though I was on my own.
I have noticed a trend over the past couple of weeks though…there are more people turning up when I do. I know that this could probably be attributed to the fact that the days are getting longer and temperature is rising. This is a problem for a few selfish reasons: I have less space, there is more noise and I feel a little bit more like a loser.
(this is my thought process…it’s crazy I know)
Coming back to the social aspect for a minute; the fact remains that it’s a place where people come with other people for a coffee and a chat/catch up not where someone comes to be on their own, that simply doesn’t make sense, if you want to be on your own, go home at least it’s quiet there and no one will distribute you ask questions or spill liquids. Why would you go out to be on your own?
The thing is I actually like going there getting a drink and reading or doing homework, I find it more productive (for about and hour) and it’s something to do to get out of the house.
There are probably other people around Melbourne who go out and do the same thing, I would image that it would be a Sunday breakfast with the morning paper instead. So it’s nothing for me to worry about and I’ll try not to from now on, but unfortuanly it’s a little harder now that my spot has gotten a little more crowded.
Maybe I will change it to a Sunday breakfast instead I have always like The Breakfast Blog

From Coffee To Tea October 6th, 2006
I have been a long time coffee drinker, and I think that being a technical enthusiast (ie: tech geek) it’s pretty much mandatory to be addicted to some sort of caffeine – my drug of choice was coffee. Nothing fancy, not a mocha chino skim no froth, just a plain cafe latte with 2 sugars and if I am out it might be a cafe mocha. For years it has been this way, increasingly so this past year I have found that the use of a good coffee at 5:30pm does wonders for my concentration level.
But I have started something else at home, I’ve started with the flavoured tea’s – green, green chai, strawberry, lemon, blackcurrant. The list goes on, after I tried one I couldn’t stop buying until I had every flavour on the shelf.
I’m uncertain what it is about them but I have at least 2 – 3 cups a day, all different flavours, the smell it’s just more….exotic than the coffee and less overpowering. There is no instant hit that I always seem to get with coffee but there is the often touted benefits that are seem to pop up everywhere, although I haven’t given up coffee I am enjoying the change.
So now I’m an avid tea drinker, now I just need some bells and a tea room!

Napier Hotel September 17th, 2006
Helped a friend move house on the weekend and as much as this troubled me I did get to experience a new eatery.
I reckon that the Fitzroy area provides some pretty good feeds for your money and the The Napier Hotel is no exception, located in the back streets of Fitzroy opposite the town hall we were able to take a leisurely stroll on a very balmy night.
Walking in you are greeted with a cosy social area to the right and left while walking ahead you get to the outside area, which is where we had dinner. The menu had a great selection at a great price, I had my chicken Schnitzel for 11.50. The serving was more the ample, I wasn’t able to finish it which made me feel a little guilty. I think that two people would easily be able to share one meal with out any problems.
I didn’t get much of a chance to spend any more time in the pub but I think that at any other time of the day it would be no less inviting.

Dinner May 10th, 2006
I tired to cook dinner, but it didn’t quite turn out right. Don’t get me wrong it was still eatable, but didn’t have as much flavour as I had hoped.
I did think that it looked quite good though.
