The situation with Connex in Melbourne is really a joke. There are so many people fed up with overcrowded, late or cancelled trains.

Check out what we scrape from the twitter feed here for some examples of commuter frustration:

I've heard of that before (it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission) I just don't know where from

Well to be honest we are both working towards the same goal so it's not so bad.

It's just those once in a while purchases that I want.

Definitely a big step. We didn't have one until we bought the flat, and we almost exclusively use it for shared expenses - mortgage, bills, groceries etc. The money we each earn sits in our own accounts - he spends his and I spend mine. I would never dream of telling him what he could or couldn't spend his cash on, and would go berko if he tried to tell me!

Having said that, I value his opinion, and if he thinks something is too expensive, he'll tell me, and vice versa. Sadly, if either of us have great wodges of cash lying around we tend to put it straight on the mortgage...how depressing.

Whatever you were saving for, I think you should go for it. If you're that worried about what she'll say, remember that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission :)

"I firmly believe that they didn’t recoognise what they had in me, I wasn’t challenged enough and now that I go through all my acomphisments I realised how much I can achieve when I love what I do, and I love what I do."

Welcome to the unfortunate reality of the workplace. No one will ever truly appreciate you. The best you can hope for is that they'll realise the value you brought after you're gone.

I have tried GTD, but I don't seem to be able to stick to it which is annoying. What I can't find the time for is the two day collection phase at the beginning. So I have skipped that and tried just collecting along the way.

I am giving it another go but this time instead of using web apps and programs on my desktop I'm going to use the Palm PDA that I have, I think that it's going to be clunky but it might prove better as it is more portable.

The binge-drink is something that I've thrown in the bin, it's just not worth the pain and doesn't really make for a stellar night in most cases either.

TOG went out a week or so ago and grabbed himself a copy of 'How to Get Things Done' and has been rigorously following its precepts. So far it seems to be helping him focus on his Thesis and calmed down the incessant worrying so I guess it seems to be working. Have you given it a go?

heheh. I have tried that one, but it doesn't seem to go over very well with the g/f. My family being traditional as it is, wouldn't exactly approve of an unmarried parents.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

My own personal reason for saying with my current girlfriend for so long as been the fact that we get along very well, and she seems to tolerate some of my more annoying traits.

I can relate to this. I've been with my partner for over seven years, and I'd say its mainly because we're also best friends.

Hm...very interesting post. My boyfriend and I are getting the same questions (though we're only at the 3 year mark), but I take the view that if you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone, what does it matter if you get married when you're 20, or when you're 40? I think that's perfectly logical. My mother, on the other hand...

I also hope that they don't have to fight with Byron Bay or the other festivals around at the same time to get some of the good artists.

Will have to try to find better accommodation next year...like a tent ;-)

I would tend to agree with what you have said going along with what I have heard from some of the people that I study with. They tend to think that they pay won't be great and they don't treat you very well, constantly being reminded that you are a grad.

That being said, I hear the other side of the coin saying that grad positions are the way to go in terms of experience.

I guess that I'm in the fortunate position of being able to do both and choose. If I don't get any grad positions, I alway have my current job to fall back on, and later on this year I can still apply for jobs through the normal channels.

I have had a bit of success with a few companies, but it's too early to tell if anything will come of it.

Thanks for the luck.

I think next year will be way better as they will have learnt from their mistakes. Hopefully!

Hmmm...I personally think the graduate opportunities are overrated. I suppose it depends on your field of study, but most grads don't stay with their company long beyond the formal program end date.

When I finished uni I was busting to get into a graduate program. I made it through to the final round with a major manufacturing company but realised very late into the piece that all of the graduate jobs were out in the boon docks - either far suburban Sydney, Ballarat or Armpit, WA.

For the time it takes (hours to complete applications, aptitude testing, single interviews, group interviews, psych testing, more interviews), and for the benefit that you get out of it...I don't think it's worth it.

For most jobs, the things you actually learn at uni (even the non-theoretical stuff like research skills, communication skills etc.) are enough. When you're 5 years into your career you won't even remember the names of the places you applied to!

But having said all of the above...good luck!

My Lit teacher used to say that an anti-hero was a protagonist who despite all good-intention was beset with flaws that held him back from succeeding in a heroic venture.

Cheers to you to.

I think that by simply finding the motivation to continue you've already proved yourself stronger than you're giving yourself credit for.

Good luck!
